More Clairification About Affiliates
-
Good afternoon,
Reading the content of your link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/, it is clear to me that, in general, WordPress.com does now allow affiliates links for the purpose of advertising, etc, however I see that there are some exceptions in the same section, that reads:
“………………
There are exceptions to this policy. Amazon.com and other select affiliate links are permitted so long as they are not the primary content of the blog in question. Other exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis.”Could you please tell me if my interpretation, from the above statement, that Amazon’s link (as an exception) is allowed on blogs, is correct? In addition, I believe to have read somewhere else, that HTML code is acceptable – is this correct?
I would like to add that, according to Amazon, they have other affiliates who use the WordPress.com to monetize their blog.
Your clarification would be greatly appreciated.

No Amazon stores are allowed.
Other exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis.
I have flagged this thread for a Staff response. They will email you so you can outline your exact plans and expectations and they can respond to you withing that specific context.

Blogs that violate our advertising policy or fall into one of the following categories are not allowed on WordPress.com:
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. Here is a thread in the support forums that talks more about which affiliate links are OK or not OK. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/ -
Thank you so much for all your help. I shall await additional response from your Staff also, as you said.

Amazon might say that they have a lot of affiliate stores on WordPress.COM and that is true – those stores last only until they are suspended and the blogs never come back – how do I know? Well we have a constant stream of people in the forum that had their catalog store suspended and they are whining about the loss – just a note – the staff will not discuss their automated ways of finding affiliate sites – but there have been hundreds of people passing in the forum that whined about their whole site being suspended as soon as they hit “Publish” in a Post that had affiliate links in it –
Note also there are two versions of “WordPress” .COM (here) and .ORG not here – Amazon could very well be confusing the two –
Regular users here hate the spam catalog sites here and anyone can flag a site – many regular bloggers do on a regular basis – I have even seen a couple here brag about the thousands of sites they turned in that were suspended – if you are reading the fine print like it sounds like – you will be much happier with a WordPress.ORG install – and since you will make a lot of money you should have no problem paying for the server costs – why should WordPress.COM underwrite your money making idea?

Hello,
Thank you for your clarification, and your advice duly noted.
It sounds reasonable!
From your understanding, can Wordads.com be used for this purpose – that is, affiliates of others, such as Amazon?
I am new to blogging and the whole concept, and have a hard time dealing with it. Thanks again.

To be crystal clear only Staff make these decisions. FWIW the primary reason I flagged this thread for a Staff response was so it would not become a Volunteer swarm thread filled with opinion as that’s never helpful and frequently leads to confusion.
You want to hear that it’s okay to have an Amazon store and market products your yourself so not make on your blog. you cannot do that here. It’s a violation of the Terms of Service. Staff will clarify that when you respond to their email and clearly state exactly what you want to do.

Again…..thanks, and I shall wait to receive Staff’s e-mail, and respond
to all pertinent question.Nevertheless, in the interest of time, and for the sake of good order, I do not mind moving on to whichever available avenue there is, in order to proceed with what I need to do. I have no intentions of violating any rules; simply needed a clarification to the “exceptions”, as read before, in WordPress.com’s own terms in the “Afiliates” section.

The only exceptions are:
To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

You may use Amazon affiliate links as long as they are not the main feature of your blog and they are only used sparingly (not in every single post).

Hello “macmanx”,
Thank you for your input in this matter, and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.
Each and everyone has been a great help to me, and I highly appreciate it.
Have a fantastic weekend!
