More Milestone Countdown Widgets – Ones that ACTUALLY work!
-
There is only one milestone widget available for me to use, and it does not have a detailed countdown timer. Instead of displaying 30 to [even] 60 days away, it will simply read: 1 Month. It does me no good! I want an option to insert my own plugins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the long and short of it. A plugins tab would make creating my website SO MUCH EASIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can have that by hiring a web host and setting up your own self hosted WordPress.org install.
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins. To have plugins you need to hire a web host and set up your own self hosted WordPress.org install. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes this. -
If you do remain at WordPress.com then for countdown timers see: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/widgets-for-wpcom-8-countdown-timers/

The countdown Widget and the lack of the ability to configure it a bit has been a sore spot for over a year – I flagged it and suggested a configuration to allow days or weeks (I think weeks) to be able to be selected by the blog owner –
why don’t you also put in the suggestion again in the Ideas section of the forum? See if anyone wants the same thing.

Those were some helpful links, timethief. Thanks! I hadn’t thought about customizing the countdown timer before, but… This should be handy for a more precise system.
Also, auxclass– That’s a good idea. If I saw that suggestion, I’d certainly support it. Being rather new to WordPress.com myself, I’m not quite brave enough to go out there and post it, heh.

@operativeseven
You’re welcome. The thread auxclass refers to is here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/milestone-widget-upgrade?replies=17

Thank you! I tried to avoid those three alternatives, as they did not seem fit, but I’ve settled on the countdown from the first linked you shared, TimeThief. It is, at least, more accurate (down to the seconds) than the one I had chosen previously…
Now, I have one more question:
If I have set up my website through WordPress.com already, and I’ve put a good amount of work and time into its construction, can I still download (?) and use WordPress.org? Will the transfer of my content be simple, or will I have to fill in the blanks from scratch again? And what if I don’t want to hire a host, but to do the work myself? I’ve already purchased my URL (HimmelmanManuscript.com) if that matters any. How can I do this? I want the ability to have plug-ins… -
And thank you OperativeSeven and AUXClass for your input, also! I do feel this is an inconvenience for many people using WordPress.com… And I assure you: The suggestion will be placed in the “Ideas” forum. I’m sure there will be plenty of people to back up our reasoning.

You can hire a web host, set up your own WordPress.org install and import your blog content into it at any time.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-orgAfter your do that, if you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.
