More Plan Levels?
-
Instead of three (3) plan levels, how about adding a few in-between to suit those who may not need what the Premium level offers, but still want more than the free level? One suggestion might be a level that offers 5GB of storage, 1 premium theme and still uses a wordpress.com domain suffix, at maybe $50/year. If that’s been attempted before and I’m just not aware of it, then I apologize for being late to the party.

Until a few weeks ago you could buy only what you needed – No Ads $30-, CSS $30-, 10GB $20- and such
Welcome to the new Cable TV Bundle Up-Sell pricing plan – many of us argued against the new plan – the only change they did was to make the Domain Mapping & Registration available as individual upgrades (if you register a domain name you need to also buy domain mapping – if you have a domain name registered outside then the domain mapping is $13-
Some people I know have said shove it – small groups – $30- was ok $99 was not – so they did not start a blog here
-
I an some others also suggested that “packages” be just based on price – say 5% discount if you by $45- worth of upgrades at once – and step it up a couple of times – just like stores do – “save $5 on your next purchase of $25” – or “free shipping for orders over $50-”

Hi there,
There have been discussions into adding features to the free plan. We are still working around with the plans/upgrades. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear them!
Cheers!

@gracejiyoung – I thought the old system was quite fair – people could buy only what they needed, not extra stuff jammed down their throat – I don’t think that about the new Cable TV Bundle thing – big jump – my guess on why the old bundle was not so popular was three fold –
1) Big Jump
2) crap like Video Press was in it
3) New bloggers don’t need extra spaceThe slight discount noted above would reward those that buy more upgrades without a big jump in price – Note: the $45.- break point would not save me any money – fine by me – but it would encourage a domain registration, mapping and a $30.- upgrade
Also allow people to renew ONE year ahead (total of two years) – for those traveling or worried about renewal – risk to WordPress.com is minimal with only a year ahead, and you might get some money a bit early – I would probably opt for a year ahead on some of my upgrades
I doubt I would ever use the Video Press – any videos will be probably put on YouTube – YouTube has a wider base, so that should help traffic to my site – CSS – don’t care about learning and the base themes here look pretty good – so no desire to waste my time changing the looks
