There are a few things I’m confused about that I can’t find answers to via search or support pages. It’s possible I’m not thinking of the right search terms, but I’ve tried all I can think of.

I’ll start with what I think is the easy question.

    1. Prominent byline: I have a multi-author blog. My infant twins are one author and I am the other. Obviously, I write both voices, and I use two WordPress accounts. I’m using twenty ten theme right now which does show the author but it’s not at all prominent. I want it to be obvious to the reader right away that Mommy is talking, as opposed to the twins. So for example, I’d like the author’s name to be larger, a different color, etc.

Ideas? I’ve looked through a bunch of themes to see if any just naturally do that, but I haven’t found any so far. There are a LOT of themes, so I admit that I haven’t looked at every single one.

    TIA

    Jenny

We cannot edit themes or templates on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. Do you have CSS editing experience and are you willing to purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade? http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

If not then perhaps simply coding in a colored background in posts that are authored by for “mommy” in for example pink would make this clear. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/09/19/background-color-to-text/

Since you have two accounts, you can edit your Profiles and add something in the “About you” field. Then you’ll get that something along with a prominent avatar below each post.

Thank you for the advice. I’ve played around with it and have decided to go with using a colored background block at the beginning of each post. It’s clumsy but will suit my purposes for now.

I’ve worked with CSS in the past so I’m not opposed to that and $30 a year isn’t much but for right now I need things to be as simple as possible. Having newborn twins doesn’t leave me much time!

What I was hoping was that there would be some sort of option for changing the look of the byline. It seems there typically is not, but would love to know if there is a template that does include that as an option.

    Thanks again,

    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,
There is no theme that provides the unpaid ability to alter the byline and make it more prominent. I’m happy to hear my colored background behind text suggestion will be workable for you. best wishes with your blog. :)
