More Spam than Usual

Is anyone else seeing more spam than usual slip through the filters? I’ve had practically zero problems for several years; over the last few days I’ve been practically inundated.

Spam comes in waves. Be sure you have comment moderation set up https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation and that you any mark undetected mark that slips by Akismet as spam. Do not delete it.

Be keenly aware that the vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.
Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam. Setting up anonymous commenting is akin to throwing down a welcome mat to spammers and phishers and all their buddies too as they sell URLs and email addresses to each other for spamming and phishing purposes.
