More storage
-
Hi everyone,
I am traveling around the world by bicycle and it is important for me to upload my photos in (not very) high quality. After 7 years on the road I have used my 13GB of space. I would like some more space. The option to add 50 Gb of space comes with a hefty 550€ pricetag (annualy). The option to upgrade my plan means that i will need to pay 300€ annually instead of the 99€ that I pay at the moment.
Both options imply an extraordinary price increase that I am not willing to pay. I do not need more features or so much more storage space. Does WordPress.com provide any other storage solution that actually makes sense for me or am I forced to leave this platform?
And please, please, do not suggest optimising my images or uploading my videos in YouTube. I know these.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Angelos

How fast are you using up your space? You could create one or two additional free sites and upload your images there and link them back to your main site. Free sites now only give you 1GB of space though. Would that be sufficient for a year or more? If another 2GB wouldn’t last you long enough you could create another site with a Personal plan that would give you 6GB. That would certainly be cheaper than making the big leap to a Business plan.

Thank you for your answer. I don’t want to link to another site because the whole point is that i have a blogpost that has everything together. i am storytelling – i don’t want my readers to move back and forth. a solution would be to integrate a full Google Photos album in between my paragraphs, but i don’t know if that is possible. it seems it’s not. Individual google photos are being transfered to wordpress so they take space from my wp storage. i really don’t know what to do. it seems complicated to migrate to wordpress.org and i am really annoyed WP.com is pricing like that.

I meant that the images would be stored on the other site but by hotlinking to them they would still be seen by visitors on your main site.
And as for not wanting to optimise images, that is done mostly for the benefit of visitors. I haven’t visited your site but image heavy sites (especially if large filesize iphone images are used) can be slow to load depending on people’s internet connection and the device they are using.

Thanks @themagicrobot. I was not familiar with hotlinking. I will further explore this and try to keep my current wordpress.com status until my plan expires.
