More tag.

It would be most convenient, if the “more” option A) included an end cut option, so that one could continue typing after the text that needs to be hidden and B) if the text on the more tag were customizable.
I switched from Livejournal about a year ago and this is the only thing that is making me consider going back.
This option is really important for posting things like tv/movie reviews/news/etc that could be considered spoilers, etc, which a great many bloggers do. It’s only polite to use some sort of cut for this, but the setup here right now is not convenient or aesthetically pleasing in the least. -
I don’t how much customization you need, but you can customize the text of the more tag to be whatever you wish:

Thank you, that helps. I searched the faq and all but was unable to find that. It would still be nice if you could “uncut” so to speak, and continue typing non-hiden text, but that is much better. Thanks. :)

You’re welcome. That’s particular link is one of the few that’s outside the FAQ. The hidden text/mouse over to reveal, AFAIK, is not achievable on wordpress.com, but is simple with a self-hosted blog if you ever make that leap.

I’m using the more tag since years and I never noticed that you cannot continue typing after it. I also don’t understand what “non-hidden” text is supposed to be. Maybe if you could explain what you mean in a simple way we could try to help you.
-
By “non-hidden” text I simply meant text that would occur after the more tag, but not be hidden by it. I’m wondering if there is a way to have a more tag in the middle of the post, basically. Or to have more than one more tag on the same post, each labeled separately with a separate link.
-
I know what you’re talking about: it’s like taking a page of text and pinching it in the middle so that part of the content is hidden, but not the whole thing. When you click, the middle expands to show the hidden text like unfolding the paper.
If I were you I’d contact staff directly and suggest it. You probably won’t be the first; a lot of film reviewers like it because you can hide spoilers without interrupting the flow.
-
Yes, that’s exactly what I meant. Thanks for explaining it more clearly than I seem to be able to. :) And thanks for the suggestion. I think I’ll do that.

Ah, ok, thanks raincoaster, now I know what jlgoins means. That would work with a tiny javascript, which unfortunately is not allowed on wordpress.com blogs. A toggle function to switch the visibility would be an interesting feature, indeed.
