‘More’ tag and readership stats.
-
Has anyone started using, or stopped using, the ‘more’ tag to split a post and seen any difference in their viewing stats?
In other words does splitting a post put people off reading further, or if they click to read more do they come back to the main page again, or do they simply navigate off somewhere else?
I get few enough readers as it is, I don’t want to make their lives harder and put them off by making it more difficult to access posts.
All answers gratefully received.

General consensus says that you should not use the more tag as it discourages readers from seeing your entire Post and readers are less likely to click on that link.
Personally, I’ve never had a big enough readership to notice the difference.

If you do long posts, I would be more likely to use the more tag. I use it from time to time and have never had any complaints really. For some though, it could be point of “whine,” but anyone who has been around blogs for any length of time should be used to it by now.

Thanks for the response, justjennifer and thesacredpath.
I had a feeling that anything that made life harder for people in anyway was unlikely to help viewing figures but you never know. Sometimes there is a perverse anti-reaction to something which has made people’s lives harder, but they can be eager to adopt anyway.
I will stick with the odd long post for now unless one becomes ridiculously long.
‘Scuse me now while I slope off back into my pit of misery and despair to glower furiously at the world from my corner of blogdom.
