More tag doesn't work

  My more tag doesn’t work. I’m using it in a published post, I’ve checked there’s no other formatting issues by going into HTML. I’ve tried using the ‘more’ the HTML. The ‘more’ line break shows up in dashboard but is either nowhere to be seen or looks like this […] but you can’t click on it. My site is private currently until I’m ready to go live. Could that be the problem?

  Could you please send me a link to one of the posts where this issue is occurring?

  Keep in mind that the theme you’re using will display either a portion of your text, or an excerpt, on the front page automatically. No need to use the more tag for this purpose.
