More tag jumps too far down

    Hello. My blog is http://deankaravite.com

When using the more tag in my posts, in multiple themes, I get an annoying behavior. After clicking the link to “continue reading” the new page loads not directly at the additional text (meaning the text after the more tag), but about half a paragraph into the additional text. Needless to say, this is annoying to users and makes reading difficult (they have to scroll up a bit every time after clicking “continue reading.” This occurs on both Safari and Chrome. If someone can please help me understand why this is malfunctioning, I would appreciate it.

P.S. It is a pretty widely accepted design and interaction convention to have “more” load to the top of the page. I really wish wordpress.com would consider this as the default behavior for the more tag. I think bloggers and readers would be happier with this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Duh, guess what? The only user this impacts is ME when I am logged in to wordpress.com. If I view the blog logged out the more tag behaves as expected.

However, I’m sorry, I still think it would improve blog usability for everyone to have more load to the top of page by default.

I’ll tag this thread for staff attention and hopefully they will be able to address the issue promptly. This was not a problem before so I suspect a bug of some sort.

  • Ah, I see what’s going on here. The jump is actually working correctly, which text starting at the top of the browser. The only problem is, it’s covered by the admin bar, which is why it’s not an issue when you’re logged out.

    We’ll look into it.

Glad to know it isn’t just me (for once). I’m sure it is a low priority item on the list of things you have to manage, but thank you nonetheless!
