  wp.com is giving mostly similar themes….only 1 theme in 10 or 20 are looking good

  The thing is “looking good” is highly subjective, and many “edgy” “trendy” themes out there will be completely ignored 6 months from now as they have gone out of style. The themes wordpress is now turning out have a lot of options for changing backgrounds and colors and such built right into them and are a very welcome addition. If you don’t like the themes here, you can always learn CSS and build your own using the Sandbox theme, which has a lot of latitude when it comes to design.

  Personally I don’t think you are going to see many “trendy” designs here since they go out of style so fast.

  You can also self-host a blog on a third party hosting site such as godaddy or dreamhost, etc., using the wordpress software and then use whatever theme you wish.
