  1) do a search of the forum, because there are more than a thousand tips here on increasing traffic.

  2) yes. Either write so well someone will hire you to blog for them or choose a profession and blog about the industry so that people respect your expertise and hire you or move off WordPress.com, develop a blog getting 1000+ hits a day, and put ads on it.
