Morning After Theme Home Page Posts

  • Unknown's avatar

I just switched from Coraline theme and I am having a lot of transition issues. I cant get more than one post to show up on my home page using the Morning After Theme. In addition, it no longer shows an option to click to the next or previous posts. Can someone help.

Please note I am NOT using code so need simple directions.

    Thank you.

That’s the way the theme is coded to operate. Read > Guide to the Morning After

Thanks for the prompt response. Is there a comparable theme where you can have multiple posts on your home page? I want the magazine look but none appear to work.

    Thanks

Thank you. I am using Twenty Eleven now and it seems to be better. I am using the showcase theme function. Can you have a video as the Featured Post? It just has the title and link to the video when I use sticky on a video post. I posts videos by embedding the youtube site in the description.

Can you have a video as the Featured Post?

If the video is embedded in a which has been designated as a sticky post then the post can become a featured post.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

To get started with the custom Showcase Page Template you need to create a page for it. Choose the Showcase Template under page templates in any page, save it, and assign it as the front page in Settings → Reading. This will change your site from the standard Twenty Eleven blog look to Twenty Eleven’s fancy showcase. You still have you regular blog list at hand for several views, like categories, searches, and tags and you can specify another page to work as your blog if you want to.

To add posts to the Featured Post section just mark some posts as sticky. That’s all there is to it.

To have a big featured image you need to use an image that is at least as big as the header image (1000px x 288px). Also, make sure you have a set size for Large image under Settings → Media that allows for such sizes. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/

The post is featured however the video doesnt show. I want the video to show like it does if it is in the recent posts. That way you can watch it directly from the Featured Posts and dont have to click on the Title to go to another page.

    Is that possible? thank you

Can you have a video as the Featured Post?

No, it won’t show on the Showcase page, because featured posts aren’t shown in full: only an excerpt is shown, and shortcodes don’t work in excerpts.

Everyone has been very helpful. thank you.

Do you know how to make a page static. My goal is to have a description at the top of the page when you click on it. Then the new posts will constantly feed under that description. Is that possible?

    Thanks

One more thing I cant figure out is how to let people email me tips or leads. I want a contact section so people can email me tips. I would like to be able to add that as a widget on the sidebar so it is prominent. thanks

Thank you for your continued help but this is not exactly what I am looking for.

First Question: When I mention having a static title, here is an example. I have created a menu. Under the menu their is a category called “XYZ”. When you click on “XYZ” it will take you to that area. I want it to say something like “Friends, please send us your stories, pictures, etc” at the top. I want that sentence to be static and always be at the top. Then under neath that I will post new posts. Does that make sense?

Second Question: I have seen the contact form before but I dont want the big form at the bottom of every post. I would like in my side bar to say something like “Contact Me” and people can click on that to email me. Or within a post say, please send us “tips” and when you click on “tips” it lets you email me. Is that possible?

    Thanks again.

    Re Q1
Sorry, I misunderstood: I thought you were talking about the main posts page. If you want static content on each category page, yo go to Posts > Categories, hover over the name of each category, click Edit, enter that content in the Description field, click Update.

    Re Q2
Sorry, you misunderstood: what shows up at the bottom of each post is the comment form, not the contact form. You create a contact form as explained in the doc I already linked to:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
If you want it on the sidebar, you copy the shortcode, then go to Appearance > Widgets, add a Text widget, paste the shortcode, save.

Thanks again. One step closer. the Contact form using Text worked perfectly. The Static section on my category did not work however. I typed in the description in the description field and nothing appears when I click on the category on my website. is there another way to do that?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, there’s no other way to do that. Did you switch to a different theme again perhaps? Category descriptions show up in some themes only.

  • Unknown's avatar

Im using the Twenty Eleven Theme. Not sure if that is the one I mentioned before.

  • Unknown's avatar

2011 does display the category descriptions on category pages (right below the category heading). If you’re not seeing them then you’ve made some mistake. Since your blog is set to private, we can’t help any more.

  • Unknown's avatar

ok, thank you. I think the issue is the way it is setup. There is not category heading. The category is under one of the menus. I have the menus locked so you can click on them so if you hover over the menu it shows you the category underneath. Then you click on the category to take you to the page. Does that make sense. I am not ready to make my page public since it is a work in process.

    I appreciate your help though.

You’re welcome but no it doesn’t make sense. If you wish, you can go to Settings > Privacy and temporarily switch to the middle privacy option so we can have a look. (The middle option is not really public: only the few volunteers who will read this thread will see your blog.)
