Most links added to blog posts – show beneath the post, but link to 404 error

  Can anyone give me some idea about how tags are supposed to work here in WP ? Every time I have published a post with tags included, they then showed underneath the post but only lead to non-existing pages – a complete nuisance. Any ideas ?
