Most of the links are not working.

It has taken three tries to get to my dashboard. Even when I get there, nothing works. I click and wait for a few minutes and get nothing. I cannot access my post to edit it, I cannot create a new post. I don’t know if WordPress employees will even read this, but not having a way to contact tech support will not convince me to purchase premium services.

Try logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies, shutting down your browser and then opening it again.

Did all that with no improvement. I even rebooted my computer. I’m having no problems with any other webpage or program on my computer.

Well, an hour after clearing cache, cookies restarting the browser and restarting the computer, about half the links are working. Perhaps the server is having a hard time waking up this morning. Maybe in another hour all of them will be working.

What browser and version are you using?

Also, how do you connect to the internet? (I know you said you are not having problems with any other site, but it could be pertinent.)

I have my own domain which I use to forward to the wordpress blog. There is a link on the left side of the screen that says “edit”. Usually, this link will take me to the post where I can edit that particular post. It does nothing.

The links under the WordPress logo are working now, but they weren’t earlier. At least now I can get to my blog and upload a new post.

Under my blog name there is another list of links and none of them work. The URL they point to shows up at the bottom of my screen just like any other link, but it goes nowhere. It doesn’t even pretend to try to load.

When I click on the “My Blog” link under the WordPress logo, I get to the screen that I think is called the dashboard. The tabs across the top read: New Post, Reader, Notifications, Stats, My Blog, Freshly Pressed — sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. This morning none of those were working, now they all work, but not always on demand. Sometimes I have to click a few times or click another link and go back to it. I always wait at least 30 seconds before giving up on that link – sometimes more.

Under the Reader tab, the blogs I am following are now showing up – they weren’t this morning.

All of these things were working perfectly a week or two ago when I put up my first post. (Yes, for those who read it, I realize I’m not much of a writer – the whole point is to learn how to use WordPress so that I can post articles that others write.)

At this point, I can access everything I need to, although I sometimes take the scenic route to do so.

I have my own domain which I use to forward to the wordpress blog.

For the sake of clarity are you saying that you have not paid WordPress.com for a domain mapping upgrade but were forwarding and that it no longer works?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have paid for my own domain name. Through the forwarding service provided by that company, when someone types my URL it automatically loads the free WordPress blog page. That is working just fine. It is the links on the blog itself that are not working. It seems to be the same as the domain mapping upgrade except that WordPress has nothing to do with it. It is all done through Network Solutions.

  • http://purevariety.wordpress.com/ seems to be fine by itself, what is the domain that you’re forwarding to it?

More than likely, you’re running into a very common problem with domain forwarding, and would need Domain Mapping to get around it.

You could remove the domain masking you’ve got going on at http://purevariety.com/ Anyone then arriving on your WordPress.com site from your forwarded domain name would then see the underlying WordPress.com address. (This is what I am doing on my knitting site since I’ve owned the associated domain name for many years.)

If you are finding that the domain forwarding with masking is causing you problems, then the better route IMHO is what both tt and macmanx suggested, which is to go for domain mapping.

  • Unknown's avatar

This doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would forwarding or masking have any effect on what is displayed on the screen?

Just out of curiosity, how are you logging in to your site? If you are logging in via your domain, why not just log in via wordpress.com?
