MOTIF GRID PAGE
-
Hi guys,
Can you walk me through how to build a GRID template using the MOTIF theme?
I read various threads but I can’t seem to find one that starts from the very basic.
I suspect it is also because I am using a free version of wordpress instead of the paid version which allows me to customize?
Is this true?
I can’t seem to find the option to assign the page as a grid.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

“Grid” is a page template option, available in the page attributes module of each page editor on this theme, in a drop-down menu under “Template.”
The rows of image links displayed in a grid page are created by assigning a page with the grid template as the parent of other pages. They are the children of the grid page.

Musicdoc1,
Thanks for your advice. I finally found the page where I can assign it as a Grid template.
Under my parent page, I nested few child pages under it. But I only want it to appear as the grid and I do not want it to appear when others mouse over the parent page. Any idea how to get it done?

The quick answer is don’t select your child pages as sub items.
In your custom menu, do not list them as a sub menu.
Just leave them as parent and grid.Hope this helps.

I too have the FREE version and have done what you want to do.
Even though I am using the Motif theme,
My front page is not the Motif front page
My front page is a self created static page.Hope this is not confusing.

Under GRID TEMPLATE you have Child 2 which is perfect.
To remove Child 2 when viewers hover over GRID TEMPLATE, this is what you do.
Go to custom menu and DO NOT include Child 2 as a sub item.

Hi John, that was how I set it up.
If I do not include Child 2 as a sub item, how else can I get it in the grid page?
Thanks for your help

Just looking at your page maybe you have not yet set it up Parent / Child.
Have you set up custom menu?

Wow, your webpage is certainly all over the shop.
If I can help let me know. It’s the complete opposite to mine:
I have the set-up but not the content.
You have the content but not the set-up. -
John, I am actually trying to do up on this website instead.
https://career25beta.wordpress.com/I think the problem is that I do not know how to set up the custom menu which you are talking about.
Thanks for your help.

If you go to Appearance>Menu>Create New Menu
For example, call it Navigation Panel.
Then only put those pages that you want to be seen on your site. -
You see right now you have Baby 1 and Baby 2 in your Navigation Panel.
With a custom menu you can delete them from there and just have Baby 1 and Baby 2 under your grid template. You already have the second part in place, so all you have to do now is create a Custom Menu.

One more thing that you may like to consider.
Make your “Grid Template” page your Front Page.
That means that when viewers go to your sight, they do not have to CLICK onto “Grid Template” it appears automatically with Baby1 and Baby2.
Try it.
