Welcome!
I am trying to adjust my page as it is displayed in demo. I have followed up the steps to adjust the frontpage
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/motif/I found these steps on the Motif help page:
1. From your dashboard, go to Pages and create a new page or edit an existing page. Then, in the Page Attributes module, assign the front page template to the page.
2. Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
3. In the dropdown menus, select the page you just assigned the front page template to in Step 1 as “Front page.” Choose any of your other pages as “Posts page:” this is where your blog posts will be displayed.
But those steps are just for setting up the front page template, and if you want to also display a featured image, you must make sure the front page you selected in step 3 has a featured image assigned that is large enough.
Here is a guide about featured images in case you need help with that part:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/And you should make sure the featured image you assign to the front page is at least 1140 pixels wide.
but I am not able to enlarge the front picture as on the demo
I think you may have already figured it out! I just checked http://mintdesign.org/ and I see a featured image working on the home page there right now. If you’re working on a different blog and are still having trouble, please reply with a link to the blog you’re working on.

Thank you :)
I was wondering about one more thing. I am trying to combine static grid page (Portfolio) with dynamic pages where I would be able to post something. I really like how the Portfolio looks like at the moment and I would like to keep it that way. I would like to set up the sub-pages (Bathroom, Living room etc.) as dynamic menus to be able to blog and add projects. Is it somehow possible to set it up this way?
Thanks for the help.
