Motif Theme – Hide Featured Images on Pages
-
I want to have feature images to create an attractive grid page but I do not want these images to display as feature images on the pages themselves. Is there a way to stop them from displaying?
For example – I have a page entitled ‘diet’ with a feature image of apples. I want the apples to show on the grid page where the ‘diet’ page is listed but I do not want the apples to show across the top of the page itself.

You can hide the featured image with some CSS. The exact CSS depends on exactly which pages you want to affect.
Here are some examples:
To hide the featured image on all child pages:
.page-child .entry-thumbnail { display: none; }To hide it on a few specific pages:
.page-id-20 .entry-thumbnail, .page-id-25 .entry-thumbnail, .page-id-30 .entry-thumbnail, .page-id-40 .entry-thumbnail { display: none; }You can get the page ID by looking in the browser’s address bar while you’re editing the post, or by viewing the browser source when looking at your page on the public side. Look for the body tag and you’ll find it there.
For example, your page titled “Medical definition” has the page ID 33.

It’s also possible to target other types of pages, such as all pages using the full-width template, or all child pages using the full-width template.
I don’t think there is a way to automatically strip featured images from all child pages of a grid page, so hopefully one of the above methods works for you.
Let me know if you need further help.

Along these same lines, is it possible to hide the featured image at the top of each post? I use Motif (my blog is greensheepstudio.com) and I want featured images enabled for other purposes, but don’t want them prominently displayed on each post! I’m sure the CSS is similar to what you wrote above, @kathrynwp, but I cannot figure it out. Can you help?
