Motion theme not available for only one of my blogs

I currently have four blogspaces on WordPress.com. The fourth one – the one on topic – was created just recently. While looking through theme choices for it, I noticed that I’m not seeing an old theme I liked enough to bookmark in the past.

This is the theme in question – “Motion”. It’s a Free theme.

It doesn’t show the “Use this Theme” top bar when I go to the demo site. So I thought it might have been deprecated – if that’s a thing at all. But it still shows up in themes search for the three earlier blogs, and I can still activate them for those.

I settled on a different theme for my latest blog; it’s no big deal if I can’t use Motion for it. But I’m wondering why this happened, and I’d appreciate an explanation for the sake of future reference.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Motion is on the list of retired themes.

A theme is retired when it no longer supports all of the features on WordPress.com. You can continue to use it on your existing blogs, but cannot activate it on a new blog (as you discovered). It’s generally recommended to switch your blogs to a current theme.

I see. So it wasn’t that far off from my guess about “deprecated themes”. Thanks much for the information!
