Move a domain from portfoliobox.com to my premium wordpress site?
-
I have registrered the domain bignoseguy.com together my account at portfoliobox.com
Now I have bought a premium account with wordpress and want to use bignoseguy.com with this account. Portfoliobox tells me that:
ME:
“Hi PortfolioboxI would like to have my domain bignoseguy.com to point to the name servers below:
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com”PORTFOLIOBOX:
“Hi,
I understood that you want the EPP-key of your domain for transfer to a third-party company, please can you confirm if this is your question to generate the code.
Portfoliobox can only assist in giving the EPP-key (transfer key), the rest is up to you and the support team of your new domain host.”Can I transfer my domain to WordPress as they suggest? I dont really understand the whole EPP-key thing :-(
Cheers Thomas

No, you cannot transfer a domain to WordPress.com. You can use a domain on a WP.com blog by changing nameservers as you have indicated, and purchasing the Custom Domain upgrade. But WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers, ie you cannot take the management of the domain from your host and move it to WP.com. You have to keep the domain with the people who are managing it now, or move it somewhere else.
Transferring the domain to WP.com and using the domain with your blog are two separate things. You can’t do the first, but you can do the second.

Thank you for the answer.
So that means that if portfoliobox does not want to change the name servers, I have to register a new domain?
