Move a site from wordpress.org to wordpress.com
-
I’m trying to move a site from wordpress.org to wordpress.com but having issues. I have Jetpack installed and up-to-date, have done the XML export and imported to the new location, but as the process starts I get the following error: ‘We had trouble reading the import file. Please make sure it’s valid XML. Try again or get help.’

Hey,
Its possible that your XML file didn’t pass the validation. You can try validating it to see if there are any issues on a site like http://codebeautify.org/xmlvalidator
It’s also a possibility that you have exceeded the mac import file size.
Have a look through the following site to see if anything rings a bell.

Hi there,
To what site are you trying to import?
Did you just export your content from Tools ->Export in WP-Admin?
Jetpack is not a requirement if you’re just migrating your content here using a standard WordPress export file. Jetpack is only needed if you’re trying to do a full-site migration, where we transfer your theme, plugins, settings, everything to a new Business Plan site on WordPress.com:

The page you linked to above is specific to troubleshooting issues using the WP All Import plugin. That information does not apply to importing content to sites hosted on WordPress.com, where we use a modified version of the core WordPress importer plugin.
