Move blog / multiple domains
-
I currently blog at studentspyglass.com, by adding the custom domain to studentspyglass.wordpress.com through wordpress.com.
As my blog focus has now changed, I would like to change to a different URL that I haven’t yet purchased (let’s call it NewDomainSpyglass.com).
I’d still like to keep studentspyglass running and redirecting to NewDomainSpyglass.com until people have got used to the switch over (studentspyglass.com expires April 10th, but I don’t mind renewing for another year). However, I’m not sure how to best approach this. As far as I can tell I have the following options :
1) add NewDomainSpyglass.com as a second domain to studentspyglass.wordpress.com and set NewDomainSpyglass.com as primary
– but if I do this, will my links be broken etc? (Do i need to purchase the site redirect upgrade?) And what about NewDomainSpyglass.wordpress.com? Would I have to set this up separately basically just with a post that says ‘this blog lives at NewDomainSpyglass.com’?2) I can move the blog to NewDomainSpyglass.wordpress.com using the Changing a Blog Address support page, and then presumably add my custom domain thr same way i have now, but I’d need to purchase the site redirect upgrade.
I think those are the only options, but I’m open to other suggestions. Basically I’m trying to figure out the best way to run NewDomainSpyglass.com as my main site, with studentspyglass.com, studentspyglass.wordpress.com and NewDomainSpyglass.wordpress.com (which I don’t yet own), redirecting to it – ideally without losing all my links etc.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can simply operate and maintain the site from studentspyglass.wordpress.com, or change the name of the blog entirely. If you don’t need to maintain both WordPress.com blogs, I suggest streamlining the amount of sites you have running here. There’s no need to start an entirely new WordPress.com blog, if utilizing your current one works. You are the only person who will see the name studentspyglass.wordpress.com. Even if you change the name, the domain name upgrades will apply. You won’t lose them.
If you add NewDomainSpyglass.com to studentspyglass.wordpress.com/, and set it to primary, all of the links currently on your site will still work properly.
Once you set NewDomainSpyglass.com to primary, all visitors to studentspyglass.com/ will be mapped to NewDomainSpyglass.com.
If you are going to host your domains here, Domain Mapping your domains will suit your purposes. You don’t need Site Redirect.

I hope I have answered your questions. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!
