move blog to standalone-remove administrator

One of the members of our organization created an organizational blog that was a child blog of his personal blog. He has left our organization and assigned me as administrator. Although he has agreed to be removed as administrator, he cannot remove himself because the blog is a child of his personal blog.
How do we move the blog to “stand alone” so it is not a child of his blog and we can remove him as administrator?
