Aloha pippacrawley, Have you seen the guide WordPress.com created for this?
    https://move.wordpress.com/

Please let me know if you have any specific questions about moving from .com to .org.

Thanks Geoffrey. I’ve gotten as far as initialling WP on Bluehost, I think. But can’t seem to get the theme into it. Am trying to following the instructions in the link you sent but can’t upload the Theme file I have downloaded onto my computer.
I usually have a friend get me a domain on WP.org and from there I can make great websites but this cpanel stuff is too much.

I am in the works of completing my migration as well.

Regarding your theme: If you have a premium I’d suggest checking with your theme provider as to whether or not you are able to transfer your existing theme to a self-hosted site. There may in fact be a separate version that is for self-hosted (like mine was) that has more functionality, but requires an additional license.

Thanks for thinking of that Dominic. My theme is free and I can see it’s available on the .org site. I’ve been ‘speaking’ with BlueHost and they say that WP.com can help by pointing the domain toward their server. Waiting to hear back from them about that now. Geez – people must want to do this all the time – you’d think there’d be a button or something! I’ve been trying to do this for 3 days now!

I too am waiting for a response on getting my domain pointer to BlueHost server. :) Definitely no button. Best of luck with your site.
