move domain to wordpress

Dear friends, I have a domain, hosted through Yahoo. I pay for this domain. However, I am 77 years old and not in best of health. I want to move my domain and website contents over to wordpress, where I already created a different web page many years ago. I am afraid if I get ill or have extended stays in hospital, I will miss payments and the current site will disappear. Please tell me how I can move the other site (hosted by Yahoo) to your free services? Thank you very much. Have a wonderful and happy day. (the bootlegger)

Hi @bootlegger2, you’d be welcome to host the site here. I’d recommend getting your content copied over first.
Then, if I were in your shoes, I would get a plan and transfer the domain here. Next, I would actually specify the free WordPress.com address as the primary domain. That way the paid domain will redirect all links to the same link on the free address. This would also give search engines a signal that the site has been moved to a new address, so they can update their links.
Then if you’re not able to renew the domain / plan at some point, you’ll revert to the free site, and search engines / etc. will have already updated their links to the new address.
All of this may sound a bit overly techy, but in short it would make a smooth transition between your paid domain and a free site.
Or, you’d of course be welcome to continue to use the paid domain as primary for as long as you’d like. If you stopped paying for it, your site would just revert to the free address.
Either way, by buying the plan, you’ll have support to help you get everything set up. Hoping this helps!

We cannot move this for you, but we do have some documentation at https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
As for the domain, we have documentation for the two options:
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
