Move from WordPress 1.5.1 to WordPress.com

Hi! I have been using WordPress 1.5.1 on my own site for a while now, but I want the new features of wordpress 2.x. I have been unable to upgrade the blogging software on my site and was thinking about moving my blog to wordpress.com. However, I cant figure out if I will be able to move the posts from my own site to wordpress.com.

Is there any way to move posts, comments, categories etc from WordPress 1.5.1 to the version running on wordpress.com?

    Thanks a lot!

It is possible to import the contents of your wordpress.org blog to a wordpress.com blog. The instructions are found in the FAQs and there are pertinent threads in the forum search box.

The trouble is, WP 1.5 doesn’t have an export feature; so you need to upgrade your install anyway in order to export the blog. Your best bet is to head on over to the wp.org forums and see whether they can help you solve the problems which have stopped you upgrading. (If you’ve already been there, my apologies. I suppose you could always try asking again…)

If you want to export your posts, comments, authors and pages, you can export your content into the wordpress.com format using the techsailor plugin, but upgrading might also be a good thing as wank has pointed out for sure. That plugin will work with your install though.

Hey, thanks Trent. I need to do the same thing with an old 1.5.2 blog, and didn’t know about that plugin.
