move from wordpress.org to wordpress.com with JetPack stats?
-
Hi,
I’ve been investigating the possibility of migrating my wordpress.ord blog to wordpress.com for some time now.
The process of export/import I think I understand, along with my existing domain name nameserver trasfer, but I have some questions that I’m unsure about.
Is someone able to help?
1. My blog is currently listed in my profile already, do I need to ‘remove’ the current site from my profile before I import the external site?2. I use JetPack to see blog stats for my wordpress.org blog, will these stats carry over to the newly imported site, or will I lose them? I would really like to keep them.
3. I have seen some reference that there are 350+ themes on theme.wordpress.com, but is there any capability to install a custom theme? Am I stuck with only the wordpress.com provided themes?
Thanks.
Kareem.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I assume the answer is yes ans the opposite can be done. Please type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff response. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. You cannot install any custom theme or any third party theme into any wordpress.COM hosted blog and there is no upgrade that changes that. The “add new theme” option does not exist on any WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You are confusing WordPress.ORG software with WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs. You cannot upload any third party or custom themes and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

Thanks for your response regarding themes, but it was more of an aside query.
Is anyone able to provide some insight into the first 2 more relevant questions?

Hi Kareem,
1. My blog is currently listed in my profile already, do I need to ‘remove’ the current site from my profile before I import the external site?
You don’t need to remove the self-hosted, WordPress.org blog from your account right away. You can go ahead and create the new WordPress here at WordPress.com first, if you’d like to get it all set up.
2. I use JetPack to see blog stats for my wordpress.org blog, will these stats carry over to the newly imported site, or will I lose them? I would really like to keep them.
Once you get the new WordPress.com site set up, staff can transfer your stats over to the new site for you.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)

Hi,
I think I’ve transferred the site over, so what remains is the transference of the existing stats data to the new site.
I’ve added modlook back to the tags to get some assistance on this.
Thanks.

Hi Kareem,
You’re all set! I moved your stats over so you can view them on your new site’s stats page. Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
