move my followers between two self-hosted blogs

    Hi,
    Can someone please help.

We have the issue that there are thousands of email subscribers on our site:
Blue17.co.uk that we wish to move to another wordpress installation.
In our WordPress.com account these subscribers (same number of team members as subscribers on self hosted site) seem to be shown as ‘team members’ and the migration tool doesn’t work for them.
My understanding is that our self hosted site subscribers are actually stored on WordPress.com and that they will need to be migrated from there to the new self hosted site.
Can you please advise on a solution.

    Thanks in advance
    John

    Hi John,

Can you confirm which site you would like to move followers from, and to?

    Thanks!

    Hi Gemma,

    Thanks for your response.
We are trying to reenable new post email notifications from Blue17 vintage-blog subscribers.
We recently separated the blog from the E commerce site with two separate WP installations on the same server. The issue is that subscribers were then no longer notified of new posts.Jet pack sharing connections are only enabled on the blog installation.
I am trying to understand if our subscribers are stored on and connected from our WordPress.com site through Jet pack and if we need to migrate them to the new blog installation from there.
Please see these links to screenshots of users and ream members on these three sites.

    Followers on WordPress.com
    Team members on WordPress.com
Subscribers on Blue17 e commerce site
Subscribers on Blue17 vintage blog site

    Than you in for helping.

    P.S
    First paragraph should have read;
We are trying to re enable new post email notifications from Blue17 vintage-blog “to” blog subscribers who have been copied over from the original site Blue17.co.uk after separating the e commerce site and the blog.

    Hi John,

Based on the information you’ve give me, it sounds like you wish to transfer followers from blue17vintageclothing.wordpress.com, to http://www.blue17.co.uk. Is that correct?

Once I know for sure, I’ll be able to answer some of your other questions.

    Hi Gemma,

    Thanks for your reply.
That’s where I have difficulty understanding, as blue17vintageclothing.wordpress.com has only one follower.
Viewed through wordpress.com in our account admin, Blue 17 Vintage Fashion, http://www.blue17.co.uk has 8, 555 team members, and not followers or email followers.
When viewed through self hosted front end wp admin there are the same number of users (8, 555) split between roles, with the majority (8,455 as subscribers.
I think it’s the 18 latest subscribers from this URL that we are trying to move to this new self hosted blog URL which is showing 8,427 subscribersand to re enable email notifications to these subscribers on publication of a new posts as this function does not currently work since separating the blog.

    Hope that makes sense.
    Many thanks
    John

    Hi John,

Thanks for clarifying. Team members are a little different to followers — they have a user account on the site whereas followers only receive updates about new content through the Reader or by email.

While I can help transfer followers to your new site, it won’t be possible for me to transfer the team members. They will need to be added to the new site separately.

If I transfer your followers, email followers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before but WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site.

Before we proceed, please let me know if you have questions about anything I’ve mentioned above.

    Hi Gemma,

    Thanks for your response.
I tested adding subscribers on our blog and can see email followers also are added to the WordPress.com, Blue17 vintage blog account.

The main issue remaining appears to be that what used to be email subscribers have somehow become “team” members (They registered through the “subscribe” field on our homepage which by default is set to subscriber) Is there a tool or method we can use to do this?

I can see that email followers can be downloaded in C.S.V, so can we transfer them from one site to another from WP Admin using the WordPress importer>tools> or through the database?

    Please advise.
    Many thanks
    John

That’s correct, although this feature is better suited to importing addresses into an email database — by that I mean a service like MailChimp where you can send email newsletters.

This isn’t something I am familiar with so the WordPress.org support forums would be the best place to ask for some advice:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

A community member there may be able to suggest a way subscribers can be separated from team members after importing the CSV file on blue17.co.uk :)
