Move permalink setting to basic plan
-
I’m new to WP.com. I wanted to change the permalink structure, but apparently, you must upgrade to enable this basic out-of-the-box functionality.
Jumping from $60/year to $396/year is ridiculous.

Changing the permalink structure isn’t a “basic out-of-the-box functionality” on the wordpress.com platform. There is no way round, but you must upgrade to the Business Plan and higher to be able to change the permalink structure on the wordpress.com platform – https://wordpress.com/support/change-the-permalink-structure/

You make it sound like a big feature. It is the out-of-the-box functionality of open-source WordPress software that has been there forever. It is weird to push people two plans higher to unlock what is already available.
Will consider the money back option.

Hi there. 👋
Thanks for reaching out to us on this. And thank you, @staartmees, for helping out.
The thread is correct, there is a need to upgrade to a Business Plan or higher to access this feature. However, if the date on the URL is not the problem, you can still change the slug here: https://wordpress.com/support/permalinks-and-slugs/Let me know if there’s anything else we can help you with.

You can’t simply compare wordpress.org with wordpress.com. The WordPress.com platform and the open source wordpress.org software are based on the same software. But WordPress.com has certain alterrations and adaptions as it runs on a shared platform. It’s pure logic some features aren’t available due to security reasons.
The choice is yours:
- upgrade to the Business Plan – https://wordpress.com/pricing/
- set up your own self-hosted site using wordpress.org. But then you have to take care yourself of all settings, upgrades, updates, security measures, …

Hi there!
Thanks again @staartmees for sharing the details. That is indeed correct.
@info59dc8ed13c5, for your information, there are two versions of WordPress – WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
WordPress.com is a hosted version of WordPress where we take care of your website’s security, updates, and maintenance while you can focus on your content. At WordPress.com, the installation of plugins and themes is allowed only with a Business and Commerce plan subscription along with other features such as changing the permalinks and many more with the Business plan and with the Commerce plan.
On the other hand, WordPress.org websites are self-hosted and require that you purchase your space on the web with a hosting company and you are the one who needs to take care of the website’s security, updates, and maintenance. WordPress.org allows you to install custom plugins and themes.
More details on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can find in the link below:

Please let us know if you have any questions or need anything else.
