Move subscribers from .com to .org self hosted wordpress installation
-
Hi,
I recently moved from wp.com to wp.org and I was wondering if it was possible to transfer my followers (of which there are 166, and I have no idea how many email subscribers) to my wp.org installation.
The custom domain that’s used for both .com & .org (pointing at .org now) is imstillhungry.net
i.e. new blog: imstillhungry.net
old blog (reverted to initial wordpress domain): stuffedfaces.wordpress.comThe blog I need help with is imstillhungry.net.
Further, I’ve been receiving a few emails from people who
a) still somehow get access to my old site (red colour scheme), even though imstillhungry.net points to the new one (black colour scheme)
b) have subscribed to me via RSS readers and hit a wall as I’ve privatised the old site
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,

I’m happy to transfer the users who have subscribed to your blog either by email or via the WordPress.com Reader.
Please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site. You might want to post a notice on your old site about your upcoming move to keep your readers informed.
Can you please reply back if you have any questions or let me know you would like to go ahead and move your subscribers?

b) have subscribed to me via RSS readers and hit a wall as I’ve privatised the old siteI had a look at your site, and it seems to be public at the moment, but hidden from search engines. Since you’ve already pointed your custom domain to your new host (Bluehost), you can now redirect all traffic from your WordPress.com site to your new BlueHost site by going to Store > My Domains in your dashboard, and making imstillhungry.net the primary domain for your site. Once you’ve done so, folks will be redirected from the old site to the new one whether they visit your site in their browser or via an RSS reader.
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I have put up a “moving” post on my old blog to the effect of what you described, so hopefully they’ll migrate themselves to my new installation.
As for the rest of the subscribers, yes, please move them all to my new installation.
Much appreciated!

Thanks for the confirmation. I just started the transfer, it should be complete in a couple of hours.
Happy blogging!

Hi,
Looks good – one more question: is there a way to transfer historical stats from WordPress.com transfer over to .org?

I just transferred your stats as well.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need.
