Move subscribers from wordpress.com blog to self-hosted site
-
Hi I have just moved my wordpress.com blog to bluehost (still a wordpress blog) and I would like to move my followers as well. I managed to import everything except my followers. Jetpack and subscriptions are activated. I read in one of the forums that wordpress could do that for me, am I right?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, sure. I’ve tagged this thread so staff will finish the transfer for you. They’ll answer you here! Congrats on your new site. :)

My new site is minekonuk.com. So I’d like my subscriptions moved from minesmirror.wordpress.com to minekonuk.com!
-
Can you check that minekonuk.com is connected to jetpack under the account that you are posting from? I am not seeing any jetpack connected sites on your account currently.
-
I’m posting from my old account (minesmirror.wordpress.com). I can’t post here from my new account (minekonuk.com) which is where I have jetpack connected. Do I need jetpack connected to my old site as well? In which case I’m not sure how to do that as it is a wordpress.com site and I cannot add plugins.. Thanks!
-
In order to transfer followers to a jetpack connected site, both the old site and the new jetpack connected site must be on the same WordPress.com account.
Otherwise we could have people just randomly asking for users to be transferred from sites that they did not own.
-
I understand. Both accounts and sites belong to me and I would really like to transfer my followers to my new site. Is there no way this can be done? Also, I still do not understand how I’m supposed to connect jetpack to my old wordpress hosted site as I cannot download plugins.

There is no way it can be done without both sites being on the same account.

Jetpack does not get connected to your WordPress.com site, just your self-hosted WordPress.org site.
What if I transfer my old blog to my new account?
That would be great.

Hi again, I had to create a new account because this happened: I tried to transfer my wordpress.com site to my wordpress.org account so that they would be on the same account. Because I have both accounts on the same email address, wordpress wouldn’t let me do this. So I changed my wordpress.com account details to another email address and a new password. I got a link to my email and was asked to log in, it said it’s an invalid username or password. When I asked to reset my password I get “I’m sorry, but we weren’t able to find a user with that login information.” So now I can’t log in with my old details or my new ones to my wordpress.com site, and can’t transfer my blog. I have no idea what to do now, please help! Thanks in advance :)

I tried to transfer my wordpress.com site to my wordpress.org account
Both need to be on your WordPress.com account. There were two ways to do this:
1. As you suggested, you could transfer your old site (minesmirror.wordpress.com) to your new account (the WordPress.com account you used to connect jetpack).
or
2. You could disconnect and then reconnect Jetpack using the account that owns your old wordpress.com site (minesmirror)
So now I can’t log in with my old details or my new ones to my wordpress.com site, and can’t transfer my blog.
So, for the moment you need to gain access to your minesmirror account again. Here’s the account recovery support page:
Given that it involves details that have to be kept private, account recovery cannot be done via the forums.
Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you so much! I have filled in the details and am now waiting for the recovery.
There’s just one thing I’m confused about. Can I move the account I have for minesmirror.wordpress.com to my bluehosted wordpress.org account? And if yes, will I be able to transfer my followers to my my new site?
As you suggested, you could transfer your old site (minesmirror.wordpress.com) to your new account (the WordPress.com account you used to connect jetpack).
The account I have connected to jetpack is my new wordpress.org account for my bluehosted wordpress site. minekonuk.com
-
Okay, let’s back up a step.
I cannot find that minekonuk.com is connected to Jetpack at all. Which is likely some of our confusion. Can you please do some troubleshooting there to see where the issue is? When you do connect it, please use your minesmirror account to do so (once you are able to access that site again).
-
Sorry I think I just figured it out! My (email visible only to moderators and staff) account is definitely connected to jetpack and minesmirror now. Could you please move my subscribers now? Thanks :)

Great! Will do.

I have migrated your subscribers and followers to your new site.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
-
Thanks that’s great! Now I would just like to hide minesmirror.wordpress.com without deleting it. Also, have the subscribers migrated or are they following both blogs?
-
They are migrated to the new blog and will not get updates for the old blog. However, I would encourage you not to post much on the old blog. People have a way of stumbling onto the old blog once again and then re-following it if they see posts that they didn’t get alerts for.
