Move subscribers to MailPoet
-
I’ve installed MailPoet on my site, and want new and existing subscribers to receive newsletters only from that. I’ve transferred current subscribers to my new MailPoet list manually but they now receive both the WP notice and the MailPoet email.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry but subscribers can be moved between WordPress.com sites and also from wordpress.com sites to wordpress.org sites only.

Ok, so if I’ve already had some subscribers, and then add mailpoet to my site, how do I change the settings so new subscribers are added to the mailpoet newsletter list?
-
I don’t have a clue how to provide support for mailpoet. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a wordpress.COM Staff response. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. You can’t. Mailpoet is not integrated with WordPress.com in any way and there is no way to migrate your subscribers from WordPress.com to that service or to replace the WordPress.com follow button on your site with a MailPoet follow button.
Additionally, when your subscribers clicked the follow button on your site those subscribers agreed to receive email notifications from WordPress.com, of which they are in complete control. By adding them to another service manually you are taking control of their subscriptions away from them, so I’d advise against that. Rather add a link to a Mailpoet subscription form to your site and give them the choice.
Additionally, in many countries and territories it is now illegal to add anyone to a mailing list without their written consent, so I hope you made sure of applicable laws regarding this where you live. The permission your subscribers gave to WordPress.com when signing up for notification to your site does not automatically extend to other services where you add them manually. You might want to contact a lawyer who specialises in electronic communication law to make sure you are compliant with any requirements where you live.

OK that’s clear, thanks. So I guess if we’re using Mailpoet or similar, it’s best to start out that way. Is that the same for Mailchimp?
-
There is no way to directly integrate MailPoet, but you can link from your site to the signup form on their site. However, this won’t prevent people from signing up via WordPress.com instead or as well.
We do have an integrated MailChimp widget that allows you to add a pop-up directly on your site. That might make it more likely for people to use it, but it still won’t prevent them from using the WordPress.com follow options.
Either way, I’d recommend encouraging users to sign up to those methods and leaving the choice up to them rather than adding them to a mailing list manually.
