Move to paying site

Hi. Our Public Library is just about ready to move from https://lfpl08530.wordpress.com/ to a paying, ad-free site. I want to submit a pricing proposal to the Board tonight. Then we would want to use our original URL – https://lambertvillelibrary.org/. I am unsure about how to proceed, grateful for any direction.

  • Hi there,

To clarify, lambertvillelibrary.org is your existing domain, which is registered on Network Solutions, yes? That is what I see in the public WHOIS ifno here: https://gwhois.org/lambertvillelibrary.org

All of our WordPress.com upgrade plans include the ability to use a custom address like lambertvillelibrary.org as the URL of your site, so regardless of the upgrade level you choose, you will be able to use that domain as the address of your site, and once you upgrade we’re happy to walk you through the steps to connect.

More info about our plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Go to ‘Settings’ in the WordPress admin menu
and then click on ‘Website Redirect’.
Enter the URL you want to redirect the site to,
    set the desired redirection type,
set the status to ‘Enabled’ and save your changes!

jerrysarcastic is correct. We need to move our WordPress website onto lambertville library.org. Unfortunately we have already paid for the domain for 5 years. So I’ll have to get special Board approval for the new WP fee of $300 for one year, and have nothing to offset that against. I am trying to build a contingency plan for if approval is delayed – we’re a public library with very limited funding, and I wasn’t sure if it was inappropriate to go for the lower fee blogger rate short term, which might be easier to get approval for quickly. Am just trying to think of ways around this!! Thanks for being there to help.

  • @andnomistake is there a specific reason you feel you need the $300 WordPress.com Business Plan?

It is possible to connect a custom domain even with our lowest price plan (Personal) which also will remove all advertising on your site, which you mentioned was your other goal.

Happy to take a closer look if you are feeling there is more that you need. Thanks for the additional info!

Hi! Thanks for keeping an eye out for me. I did in the end subscribe at the Personal level, on the basis that I can upgrade if and when needed. I am now planning to have a redirect from our old website to the new WordPress site. I have done what’s necessary in WP, and am contacting the people that have managed the domain until now to get the server redirects in place (as this bit is beyond me)!
