Move to WordPress while retaining current file paths?
-
I run a number of custom domains via WordPress.com
I’m considering moving another of my sites from another hosting service to WordPress.com, but I’m concerned about losing my folder & file structure.
For example, on WordPress.com, is it possible to ensure that a given page will have this address:
mydomain.com/myfolder/myfile.htmlI’m worried that if I move over to WordPress without retaining those file paths, I’ll lose my Google rank.
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
I’m afraid that’s not an option on WordPress.com. It may be best for you to use another hosting service with WordPress.org (a link to some hosts: http://get.wp.com/hosting/ ). On WordPress.org, you can use a plugin (like Redirection) or use what’s called a .htaccess file to redirect files to the new location, saving your SEO and Google rankings.
More about the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com can be seen at WordPress.com and WordPress.org
If you have any questions, please let me know.
