move to wordpress.org
-
hello,
i decided to move my website in a self-hosted wordpress.org website.
i understand that i have to pay in order for 301 redirects to be created between them, and i am willing to do it.
i wanted to ask:
1) is it possible to change permalink structure to /%postname%/ (for seo reasons) in the wordpress.org website?
if i cannot do this immediately (as it states that in order for the paid 301 redirects to work the same permalink structure must be kept), should i be able after -let’s say- one year break the 301 redirects and change the permalink structure by creating new redirects?
how do i create them and what kind of redirects should i use then?2 ) i would also like to change the post slugs (also for seo reasons)
is it better to change them in the wordpress.com website first,
so when i export the files they are already changed and imported with the new slugs in the wordpress.org website?
or is there a better way to change the post slugs in order for them to work seamlessly with the 301 redirects?thank you for your time

Hi @cuetoenter,
Our site redirect upgrade will send visitors from /2017/11/01/postname on the old address to /2017/11/01/postname on the new site. We don’t have any more configuration options on this end. We just get people from the old site to the same address on the new site.
But your host may be able to help you set up more redirects on their end. Like they can likely set up automatic redirects from /2017/11/01/postname to /postname .
Changing post slugs is a bit trickier and would likely need to be done a single redirect at a time, but again, those redirects would all happen at your new host.
Also, changing the slugs here before exporting really wouldn’t do you much good. The point of the redirect is to make sure anyone clicking on the old link will still be able to access the correct page. So changing the slugs here would still break old links.
