Move traffic from one WordPress Website (now obselete) to another (now the live site)
-
3 years ago I created candsbellringers.com to be the home site for our local bell ringers. Although this is no longer our ‘live’ site, we have a large amount of archive material on it that we would like to be able to access when we need it.
However we would like any Google searches to send users to our new live site (wpbells.org). The domain name candsbellringers.com is expiring this week. What do I need to do, to maintain it for another year but send users to wpbells.com? -
Hi,
You could use the Site Redirect upgrade: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/site-redirect
Select candsbellringers.com to redirect from this screen. Type wpbells.com into the blank field, and click the blue button that says Go.
This way, each time people will click on candsbellringers.com, they will be redirected on wpbells.com.
Happy blogging!

Thank you – that looks like exactly what I need, but I just wanted to check about payment – I need to pay $13 for the site redirect, obviously, but also should I renew the subscription (also with WordPress) for candbellringers.com?

Yes indeed.
Otherwise candbellringers.com will be lost. And as it wouldn’t belong to you anymore, the site redirect wouldn’t work. -
The team decided to let the domain go and just allow Google to gently go over to the new site. However, our members may want to look at the archive material on the old site. Please can you remove the “Uh oh your blog’s domain expired” message from the site?
