Move website from backup
-
Good morning,
I have a blog here on wordpress and I also had a website using wordpress hosted somewhere else. My hosting subscription ended and I now have the cPanel backup of the website. Is it possible to move all my content from the backup here?
I will also need to have the dns directing here. The website is myphotographywithjoy.com so probably I will also have to change the nameservers as well.Thank you!

You can follow the steps in this guide on how to import content into your WordPress.com blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import
To map an existing domain to your WordPress.com, go to Store > Domains on your blog’s dashboard and follow the steps there.
Please take a look at the following guide before going through the process.
Let us know if you need any help.

Ok, I mapped the domain and changed the nameservers.
The problem is that i now have the .gz file obtained from cPanel backup. I do not have an XML file to import all data from :(.Thank you.

Yes, I would like to send the file to you so you can have a look. The thing is that it’s 800 mb. Can I use some cloud storage or something to give you the file?
I do not want to delete anything from it because you might be needing it.Thank you.

That’s pretty big. Have you tried unpacking the file? Does it contain any .xml files? or only attachments?
Note that we’re only able to import .xml files that contains blog content data. If your previous web hosting is offline we’re not able to import any attachments.Otherwise upload the file using http://wetransfer.com and send us the link by e-mail.

Ok, I will upload the file now.
In the email do I need to mention anything else? Because I noticed it’s a general email address.
Anyway the file probably contains attachments but you can ignore those, I will upload them, that’s not a problem. Also contains sql back-up, probably you need that. As for XML, I could not find anything.
I will send the link in a few minutes.Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. I need a little more time to get this sorted. The file is rather large and it requires to make a few manual changes to get this content into your WordPress.com blog.
I’ll keep you updated as soon as possible. Thank you.
