Move wordpress.com followers to wordpress.org site

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey there! I have a new self hosted site at http://www.chrisontour84.de/ and would like to move my followers from the old one over there.

I searched the forum and ppl were able to do that using the JetPack plug in and wordpress support.

Now that there is no support for non-paying users here anymore, I was wondering if anyone could help through this forum?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi! I actually am looking for the same thing (transferring followers from .com to .org). I read on another forum post that the WP engineers can do it…anyone there who can help?

    I’m trying to transfer to/from http://www.hardlysnarky.com.

    Hi,

You need to follow all those steps:

    1. On your self-hosted WordPress site, install the Jetpack plugin, connect it to WordPress.com with your WordPress.com username, and make sure the Subscriptions module is activated.
    2. Optionally, add the Jetpack Subscriptions widget to your sidebar.
    3. Optionally, on your WordPress.com site from which you’ll want to transfer your followers, post a notice telling your site’s followers that you’ll be moving, and that their subscriptions will be going along with you. This is because, while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site, which they can do if you’ve added the Subscriptions widget.
    4. Once Jetpack is connected and ready to go, and you’ve informed your readers about the upcoming move, you can transfer your subscribers right from your WordPress.com user account by following the steps outlined in the Subscription Migration Tool guide.

    Happy blogging!
