Moved a WordPress.com site from one WordPress.com subdomain to another, how to redirect people from
-
I migrated the subdomain of an existing site (which is currently private while we are building it out) from (for the sake of example) abc.wordpress.com to def.wordpress.com . When I did this, there was an option to disable the old subdomain (or something of the sort), which I left unchecked. Now the issue is, I want to make sure anyone trying to go to abc.wordpress.com can get redirected to def.wordpress.com . There were some invitations sent to contributors when the site was at abc.wordpress.com , and I am wondering if they might get lost if they follow those original links to abc.wordpress.com.
While logged in to wordpress.com, if I visit abc.wordpress.com , I get a message of:
‘This site is marked private by its owner. If you would like to view it, you’ll need permission from the site owner. Request an invite and we’ll send your username to the site owner for their approval.
← Back to WordPress.com’ When I follow the ‘back to wordpress.com’ link, I can then access all my sites including def.wordpress.com .This was strange because I was already logged into wordpress.com as an editor with access to the site. I would have expected to just be redirected to def.wordpress.com .
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

P.S. the line of “the blog I need help with is” is incorrect, so please disregard that. Not sure how to change that.

Hey mrengy!
Here’s a guide to redirect one WordPress.com subdomain to a new one. There is a yearly cost associated, but you’d only need to do this for the first year, of course. Follow these directions and your site users should end up in the right place!
