Moved from wordpress to self hosted – Google Results

  Hi,

  I moved my blog recently and also registered my new site on Google to crawl it with the webmaster tools etc. but my noraschi.wordpress.com blog is still showing up as first result with links to subsites when you google “noraschi”.

  noraschi.com is currently the 4th result.
  I will not use noraschi.wordpress.com anymore.

  What’s the easiest way to get noraschi.com to be the 1st result?

  How did you guys do it when you moved your blog?

  Hi norashi,

  normally it takes time for a website to climb the SERPs, therefore it may take a while to see your new website going upper than your old one.

  It happened to me once as well, and after a while my wordpress.com blog was still better ranked than my self-hosted one.
  What I did personally was to try to redirect the old one to the new one.

  With that said, while ranking websites, the longevity of a URL is one of the key aspects along with fresh content. I’d suggest you to keep publishing fresh new content on your new blog and check in a couple of months if anything has changed.

  PS: if you still have access to your wordpress.com blog you can also write a message on the homepage telling your readers that you’ve moved your blog. Hope it helps :)

  Hi stefaniamattana,

  Hmm ok…

  Were you able to redirect it then?

  That’s what I did but I wanted to have a manual way which does it faster.
  Does putting my blog on private help.

  As you can see when you google for “noraschi” it even shows subpages and stuff which I want it to happen for my noraschi.com

  I used the Site Redirect Upgrade under the Domain tab on the Dashboard.

  Here are more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

  Doing this should better adjust your search engine page results as all your wordpress.com URLs will be redirected to your actual new website.

  Oh ok, I tried to find a no-cost solution, but yeah. I saw that one already.
