movement of WP build to another site/place/hoster

If I build in one place with hosting, can I move it to my final destination as don’t want to destroy my current web until this one is as nice as existing site? Private hosting in each case. Also if I build for a client at my hosting – can I move to hers when ready?

Hi there!
You can always move your content from WordPress.com to another host using our export option. However, please note that this export does not include theme specific settings.

Very kind of you to write, Shawn. Still not sure…. If I build on my own Hosting a WP site for someone else, or even myself…then want to move to my friend’s hosting….then it all falls apart? So have to create, where I want it to be/end up? regards, Denise

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you want to do. You can always move your content from WordPress.com to somewhere else. And you can move your content from some other source to WordPress.com.
If you’re looking for the ability to fully upload or download all files associated with your site, we don’t allow that here at WordPress.com. But you’ll have that capability if you’re using another host.
Does that clear things up? If not, can you give me a concrete example of what you want to do?

Thank you, I’ve decided not to attempt to move it or direct elsewhere, or create child theme as not experienced enough yet. Enough to try and design it the way I want. I think you are with WordPress. I’ve just found the perfect theme (for one website) called: Back my Book. No flashing or sliding objects – not large pictures but perfect for writers. I read it is no longer supported yet I can see it is being used. What does not supported mean? Can it not be brought back. I’ve looked at hundreds and want this one.

We’re able to offer help for sites hosted here at WordPress.com, but that’s different from self-hosted WordPress sites using the software from WordPress.org. The theme Back my Book isn’t available here at WordPress.com.
