Moving a category to another menu
-
Hi there, I need assistance please. I am trying to move a category (hair extensions) from underneath the ‘Shopping’ section (https://refinehairextensions.ie/product-category/hair-extensions/) over to ‘Wholesale’ (https://refinehairextensions.ie/wholesaletraining/) section. Is there a way to do this in bulk?

Hi,
Perhaps the easiest way would be to delete the menu item Hair Extensions from the items under the Shop category and add it to the items under the Wholesale category. There are presently no posts in this category, so the question regarding bulk (if I understand correctly) is irrelevant.

Thanks music doc1 for your reply. The posts are not public as we cannot launch until I can move the category over unfortunately. Our web dev guy is worse than useless so have no guidance or assistance at all 😩 There is far too much time and effort gone into loading the category previously and I really want to avoid wasting so much time manually uploading from scratch again if possible…

I see. Well, removing a category from a large group of posts is as simple as deleting the category. The category can be added again later. If it is a WordPress.com site, this can be done at the WP Admin categories page. Yours would be at https://refinehairextensions.ie/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category.
Then the desired category may be added in bulk to selected posts at your WP Admin posts page, https://refinehairextensions.ie/wp-admin/edit.php. Let me know if you’d like instructions on how to do that.

No, I think that might be the easiest way. I was confused for a minute, thinking you had subcategories. Let me call for staff attention. Staff will respond here.

If you create parent categories (e.g. “Shopping” and “Wholesale”), then in the future the process of moving a subcategory such as “Hair Extensions” from one parent to the other, would be a quick and easy two or three step process.

You may also manage categories and tags in the My Sites interface as well as in WP Admin. I’d forgotten this. See the Manage Categories and Tags section of the Writing Settings support page for information and instructions.

Hi amymichelleshanahan,
It looks like refinehairextensions.ie is using WordPress.org software with another host, rather than WordPress.com:
You could try the parent category suggestion @musicdoc1 mentioned above — I think that’s likely to the simplest option:
https://refinehairextensions.ie/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
If that doesn’t work for any reason, the WordPress.org support forums will be the best place to ask for more advice:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums
Best of luck!
