Moving a domain/losing current website?
-
Hi,
We have a domain, which seems to currently have a website built on it in WordPress.
We would like to move away from that 3rd party and manage the website ourselves.
If I go through the steps of moving to the WordPress account will the current website come too? Or will that be striped off and I have to start again. -
What is the URL of the site you are trying to move? We’ll be happy to take a look and see if we can help.

we own/have a website at http://www.dagem.co.uk – apparently it was originally built in WordPress by a 3rd party.
But we would like it held in-house.I am not skilled enough to replicate the website quickly in WordPress.

You can move the site to us by following the guide at https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
That site is using a third-party theme, so you’ll need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to keep using the same theme: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/
But, if you’re open to changing themes, we do have hundreds of themes available, no paid plan required: https://wordpress.com/themes

Thank you – I do have a paid Business account.
However when I try to follow the process outlined in the document – which, I was tried to use before. It states that;
This is not a WordPress site.I think this is because we have a 3rd party which we have purchased the domain from [runbox].
Then a different 3rd party used wordpress to build a website on that domain for us.We want to take back control of our website and link the domain dagem.co.uk to my WordPress account (paid for business 1st June – check transaction history) however are unsure of how to do this to ensure we pull the whole website across.
I guess I will have to ask the freelancer for the WXR file to import the website that way.
I just want to minimise downtime, as I personally am not skilled enough to build a website that quickly. [Taken screen shots of current site just in case] -
It’s possible they have the WordPress site set up in a way that would not allow the automated transfer of the site using the tools we have here.
Additionally, with a Business Plan, you have access to 1:1 live chat and priority email support that will give you more help in getting your site moved over and set up that you can access here:

I hope that helps!
