Moving a google domain to wordpress

I bought a google domain name about a month ago and would like to set up a website on WordPress. I’m a little confused about what I now need to do. Do I have to pay WordPress to host my website? Or do I pay a third party contractor for that? I’m seeing ads for services from hostgator and companies like that. I’m new to this and don’t quite understand what I need/don’t need, and what I have to pay for and what’s free. Thank you!
