Moving back from self hosted

    Hi there! I had my blog moved to self hosted and no longer need that. What do I need to do to have it hosted on wordpress.com again? What annual feels are a must to pay? It seems like I am paying for annual fees I am not in need of, please help!

    P.S. I just got charged for $13 – for domain mapping and will be charged $30 for custom design yearly. I don’t think I want these – are they needed?

    If you want to tweak the design for a blog hosted here, you do need the custom design upgrade. And (in my opinion) once you have a custom domain, you are worse than a fool if you let it lapse. A great domain name is the best asset for a blog.

    You do not need to pay for hosting here. Pay for only what you need; if you want one of the prefab themes as-is, just use it for free unless you want a premium theme. But my advice is to spend $13 a year for the domain mapping. It’s so you can use littlemaison.com with your Word[press.com blog. If you don’t pay it, you get littlemaison.wordpress.com and your old followers and subscribers (and those who google you) will not find your new blog.

    Thank you so much for the response! I DEFINITELY want to keep my domain (littlemaison.com) – so the $13 annual pays for that thru wordpress? I am just confused what fee covers what – I had a friend initially set it all up some time ago – and I have no clue.

    What I’d like to do is stop paying for my self hosting (which is on something – hostgator). Will this affect the blog? I am so unclear. I remember there being free themes.

    The fee doesn’t pay for the domain: the fee is to connect the domain with your WordPress.com blog.

    Export all the contents including media from your Hostgator blog (on the Tools page) and Import it to your WP.com blog. Then once you have confirmed that everything including images transferred over, you can move the domain to WordPress.com via these instructions http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/

    Then you can delete the old blog or just set it to private.

    All the themes here are visible on the dashboard Themes page under Appearance. The ones that say Premium cost money, but there are like 200 free ones.
