Moving back to WordPress

I have bought an upgrade to my WordPress site; it is the Premium one – this is what you mean by ‘a plan’?

That’s right, you’ve purchased the Premium plan and that has been added to your site successfully. These forums are a public place so I’ve removed the transaction ID you shared here :)

This is the site with the stats going back to 2012:
    https://wordpress.com/stats/year/theframeblog.wordpress.com

These stats are for the site you originally created on WordPress.com — which is the same site you have purchased a Premium plan for. @supernovia has already reached out to our developers for more information about why only 2018 stats are showing. We don’t have any news on that yet but we’ll let you know when we do.

I will contact GoDaddy, and get the domain name transferred

Great, the steps @supernovia linked to should get you on the right path:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/prepare-domain-for-transfer/

We’ll be here if you have any questions.

Thank you – you are so kind and helpful… :)

I have got an authorization code from GoDaddy, but am not sure what to do with it; if I give it to you, please can you deal with it? – or can you tell me where to insert it?

The articles linked to above tell me what I need, but not exactly how to apply it when I have got it, if you see what I mean…

    Sorry!

  • @theframeblog can you add the domain here?
    https://wordpress.com/domains/add/theframeblog.wordpress.com

It should say “Yes, I own this domain” and then you should be given the option to transfer. Can you try that?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you so much! – That seems to have worked, and I have got this message:

‘We sent an email with an important link. Please open the email and click the link to confirm that you want to transfer theframeblog.com to WordPress.com. The transfer can’t complete until you do!’

Now, do I click on that link straightaway, or should I wait, because you are checking (see posts above) as to why only the 2018 stats are visible? Will I mess everything up, if the transfer happens now…?

  • Unknown's avatar

I haven’t had the email from WordPress yet, but I did have one from GoDaddy, asking me to accept or decline the transfer, so I accepted it; I hope that this is OK..

I would also like to transfer the domain name of my personal website, lynnroberts.co.uk, from GoDaddy (they just hold the name, but not the hosting) to WordPress, so that I can make a new website with that name here. Would I have to pay you in order to be able to use the name with a WordPress site, or could I use it with a free one, and just pay you for renewing the domain name…?

Thank you so much, and best wishes,
    Lynn

PS Can I start uploading articles onto The Frame Blog yet, or should I wait until you tell that it’s all right?

  • I’ve confirmed the transfer is in progress, so now we just need to wait for it to complete. This typically takes between five and seven days.

I would also like to transfer the domain name of my personal website, lynnroberts.co.uk, from GoDaddy (they just hold the name, but not the hosting) to WordPress, so that I can make a new website with that name here

We’re not able to accept incoming transfers for .uk domains at this time, so you’ll need to keep the domain registration at GoDaddy. But if you want to use the domain on a site hosted with us, you can.

If this is on a different site than the one where you’re transferring your domain, you’ll again need a paid plan on the site. Then you can connect the domain here using our domain mapping upgrade:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

PS Can I start uploading articles onto The Frame Blog yet, or should I wait until you tell that it’s all right?

You can start working on your site while waiting for the transfer to complete, yes. Your site is already fully functional and accessible at the free address, theframeblog.wordpress.com, and once the transfer completes we’ll automatically set theframeblog.com as the primary domain on the site, but someone viewing your site when that happens will not even know anything has changed unless they pay attention to their browser address bar :)

Thank you; that’s all very clear and helpful. I presume that the wait for the transfer accounts for the fact that The Frame Blog isn’t available? https://theframeblog.com/

I hope that it doesn’t take too long to finish the process, as no-one can find it at the moment. Also, will Jetpack not be installed again until the transfer is complete?

Have you got any news about my historic statistics, and whether the ones going back to 2012 have been re-integrated with the ones for 2018 (which were the only ones showing under ‘Years’)…?

Also, I re-loaded the last article (on Stefano Bardini https://wordpress.com/post/theframeblog.wordpress.com/5236), with an apology to the readers at the beginning that it had been lost when the hosting passed to Godaddy; and I would prefer to keep this original article, rather than the re-loaded one with GoDaddy; is this possible?

I am so grateful that it will soon all be back in place again…

    Thank you very much.

  • I presume that the wait for the transfer accounts for the fact that The Frame Blog isn’t available? https://theframeblog.com/

It looks like the transfer actually completed around an hour ago, so you should be good to go. All that you still need to do at this point is to point the domain to us – at the moment it’s still pointed to GoDaddy.

Go to My Site ->Domains and click on your domain. Then select Name Servers and DNS. Toggle the button there to use WordPress.com name servers, and your WordPress.com site should start loading at your domain within a few hours.

Also, will Jetpack not be installed again until the transfer is complete?

Jetpack is included by default on all WordPress.com sites – it’s built right into the WordPress.com version of the WordPress software. If you’re looking for a particular feature you used in Jetpack, let me know and I can tell you where to find it in WordPress.com.

Have you got any news about my historic statistics, and whether the ones going back to 2012 have been re-integrated with the ones for 2018 (which were the only ones showing under ‘Years’)…?

Not yet. We’ll let you know once we hear from our developers on that.

I’m not sure I understand. Can you please provide some more details on what exactly you’re trying to do here?

The content you see at https://wordpress.com/post/theframeblog.wordpress.com is the content that’s on your site with us. Any content on your GoDaddy site will not appear on the WordPress.com site unless you’ve specifically imported it here.

I think that I have done the right thing with the domain and the servers, in that I did exactly what you indicated; now under ‘Domains’ there is this:

    ‘theframeblog.com
    REGISTERED DOMAIN
    theframeblog.wordpress.com
    INCLUDED WITH SITE PRIMARY DOMAIN’

Is it correct that theframeblog.wordpress.com is the primary domain?

Also, now when I Google The Frame Blog, I get this:

    ‘Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from theframeblog.com (for example, passwords, messages or credit cards). Learn more
    NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID’

I am assuming that this is because it is still being transferred? – I am nervous because, with the host I changed to, I got this message at the time (April?) that Google started cracking down on sites which didn’t have a current SSL, but nothing can happen to the site at the moment, can it?

You have answered me about the Stefano Bardini article I queried, as it’s not going to be reloaded from GoDaddy, so that’s all fine…

I’m so sorry to bother you with what are very basic questions, but I don’t have the basic knowledge to understand them.

Thank you for helping, and best wishes,

    Lynn

PS The question about Jetpack was related to the importation of statistics, as losing Jetpack in the midst of the previous transfer seemed to be when all my statistics evaporated.

  • Is it correct that theframeblog.wordpress.com is the primary domain?

You’ve switched the name servers, so now you can make theframeblog.com the primary domain, and then it will be the domain that shows in the browser when you view the site going forward.

Also, now when I Google The Frame Blog, I get this:

    ‘Your connection is not private

You likely viewed the site over an https link before we had issued an SSL certificate. But SSL is now active on your site, so you shouldn’t see that any more.

I am assuming that this is because it is still being transferred?

The transfer is all done now, and the domain is correctly pointed at us, so everything should work normally from this point on.

I’m so sorry to bother you with what are very basic questions, but I don’t have the basic knowledge to understand them.

Not at all. Domain transfers and how they connect to site falls very much within the advanced category :)

PS The question about Jetpack was related to the importation of statistics, as losing Jetpack in the midst of the previous transfer seemed to be when all my statistics evaporated.

I understand, yes. @supernovia reported that to our data team, and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from them.
