Moving Backup blog files to Bluehost

Hello, I just purchased Bluehost and a new domain today. I thought I would easily be able to integrate my posts into Bluehost but I need to upload them. I reached out to Bluehost support and they advised me to reach out to your support and request you to generate the backup file. Once I receive the backup of website files and database files I can upload the backup files of the website to the file manager in Bluehost. Can you please help me with this? Thank you.

  • Hi there,

We handle backups for you site on our end, but if you want to manually do it yourself, you can do so by exporting the site. For more information on backups, please visit our support page:

Thanks for the quick response. Would I need to pay or upgrade my plan to have WordPress export? I wasn’t able to open the export document and it’s in a funny format so I’m not sure I can do that manually. Thank you!

Are you trying to export the content of https://operationrelocation.travel.blog/ to a site at BlueHost? No upgrade is required for that. But only your own content posts/images of a WordPress.com site is contained in an xml file, not database etc.

    Could you give more details.

  • The export file is not meant to be opened. That file is generated in the XML format, and it’s meant to be uploaded to another service that accepts that format of file to import content. WordPress.com

If you’re setting up a WordPress site at Bluehost, you can upload that file at Tools ->Import in that site’s WP-Admin dashboard. That will then import all your posts and pages, and fetch the media files from your WordPress.com site’s media library.

We don’t offer full-site backups of WordPress.com sites, so a normal WordPress export/import is the only way to migrate content from one site to another.
