moving between posts

I’ve been blogging for a while, but I’m something of a website illiterate, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. Is there a way for me to make it possible for readers to move from the post they are currently reading to next or previous post directly from the page? You know, the buttons you see that say “<<Next Post” and “Previous Post>>”. Right now, if a person wants to just read the posts in order, they have to keep going back to the front page or whatever.

I hope my explanation of what I’m asking makes some sense. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Usually people have their blogs set to display the whole post on the front page. Then, all it takes is scrolling down to read all the posts. If you’ve got it set to show only a snippet on the front page, however, there’s no workaround I know of.

You COULD set the blog to display only one post on the front page; then they’d have the functionality of “next post” but it would be annoying for the readers.

Yeah, I do some really long posts, so I’ve been using the “Read More” breaks so it’s easier for people to skip past things they aren’t really interested in. Of course, if anyone knows how to hide part of the post and then show the rest on the main page when a person hits “read more” instead of taking the reader to another page, that would help to.

You can do that with independently-hosted WordPress, but not here at WordPress.com. I, too, would like “read next” and “read previous” buttons. Heck, anything to keep them on my blog!

There may, and I say MAY, be some themes that have this built in. There are theme reviews at http://internetducttape.com.
