Moving blocks
-
I have the free version. Is that why I cannot move blocks around? I can move them up/down, and place them left or center, but I cannot ‘grab’ it and move it freely around on the page. If I am adding a block with text, it would be nice to be able to place it where I want. For example overlaying a picture block, describing something in the picture. Not possible?

I’m with you. They just changed blocks yesterday (3/29/20) and I can’t figure it out anymore either. They used to have 3 little dots you could grab on the top of a block to move it around, but those are gone as of yesterday.

I just figured it out. When you click on a block the tool bar above it opens. Hover over the “block style” square which is the furthest left square on the tool bar. When you hover over the “block style” square a new square to the left of that should appear. It has 2 arrows to move the block up and down within the section you are in, but if you want to move the block anywhere on your page you simply need to grab the whole arrow square and then you are able to move the entire block anywhere you want.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. The thing is that I can do the moving with arrows, but not with the “hand”. The hand comes up when hovering over the arrows, but nothing happens when I try to drag. Only when clicking arrows. Is it because I am using the free software? This also means that it is impossible to move the block sideways. And the block only moves to a pre-decided place. If I make a block with text, it is not possible to move in inside a picture for example. It IS possible to move the block from left side to center and right side, by using the Alignment tool, but again, I would like to move the block anywhere I want. But, it might be that the block system does not allow blocks to be placed on top of each other.

Hi folks — I can confirm this is part of a recent design update. If you pull up the arrows, do you get a hand then, and can you drag with it?

What browser are you currently attempting this on? Our developers are currently working on making the UI better for this feature, but I want to see if I can replicate within a browser what you are unable to do from your end.
Thanks,

Microsoft edge. I can not find out how to make my pages so that the whole background has a color.

The problem is by using the arrows, I can move the block up and down only and not horizontally – therefore, I cannot position my block ti any specific place on the page.
Without having to position the block to a desired location, I am not sure what value will the editor bring? -
Hi @menerstuff, which version of Egde are you using so I can try and replicate it on my end?
@kyounus, I have replied to your other thread, you can follow up there if you like.

The current version of Edge on Windows 10 is 80.0.361.62, so if you’re on version 44 you’re using a very outdated version.
Please see if updating your browser to the most recent version makes any difference to the dragging option.

No, you cannot place blocks on top of each other like that. Each block is a section of content that appears inline with other sections of content, without overlapping.
If you want text to appear over an image, you need to use the Cover Block which is specifically designed to work that way by nesting blocks within one another.
You can also use Column, Group, Layout Grid, and Media and Text blocks to arrange your content in various ways.
I can not find out how to make my pages so that the whole background has a color.
The only way to do this is using custom CSS on our Premium Plan or higher.
Inside the editor you can only change the background of individual blocks, not of the entire page.
