Moving Blocks Up And Down?
-
Hmm….
Until today it was easy to move content blocks up and down on the page. The handy little arrow buttons for that function seem to have vanished. Or I’ve finally gone senile, could be that too.
I can see that someone is fiddling around with the interface code. Temporary issue?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
-
Chrome ver 80, browser up to date.
If WP CP doesn’t work in Chrome, it doesn’t work.
Have installed no extensions or add-ons.
Don’t want to kill all my login cookies.
Cleared cache and restarted browser. Problem persists.
Here’s my theory. Somebody on your end is fiddling around with the interface code. They’ve broken a feature. They prefer not to admit that. They want me to become an unpaid member of the quality control team at WP.
Ah, I see the problem now. The up/down arrows are still there, but they don’t appear unless you mouse over them. That is, whoever is “improving” the interface has made them invisible.
MORAL OF THE STORY: When any site has a zillion users, it’s not wise to fiddle around with the interface unless one can make substantial improvements. Making things different just for the sake of being different isn’t an improvement, it’s a bug.
-
I’m currently not seeing any problem myself in Chrome 80.0.3987.149, which is why I suspect it’s most likely either an extension breaking it or a cookie conflict.
-
Ok, so you’re unaware that someone on your end is making edits to the interface. No big deal…
-
Hello my Chrome is up to date as well, Version 80.0.3987.149
And the arrows to move the blocks don’t work in my browser too. I also tried with Safari it still doesn’t work. I have spent several hours on this, trying to move blocks and I still can’t. It’s a bit frustrating.
Please find a solution for this.
Thank you!

The very responsive, helpful and cheerful Happiness Engineers, who I imagine are also quite handsome and attractive, have confirmed to me in an email earlier today that a key focus of WP.com at the moment is…
“…right now most of our attention is going to improving our Block Editor experience.”
Certainly WP is the wonderful tool it is because much work has been invested in improving things. So thumbs up for that.
Problems that arise in this upgrade process will likely be temporary, but ideally any changes made should be thoroughly tested before they are released upon paying customers. I suppose free users are perhaps a different situation.
When one has a zillion users, sometimes it’s wiser to leave things as they are unless a truly useful improvement is being added.

Hi, I am also having an issue with these move block arrows. I can find them but when I hover over them, they disappear. Like I can’t actually click on them, they disappear as soon as my cursor goes over them. I’ve tried several different browsers.

I am also having this problem with the arrows for moving blocks suddenly missing from all my posts. I have sent a support ticket to WordPress.com so hopefully they will fix it.
-
Actually, I see what they did. It seems in the update they moved the up/down arrow feature to the top toolbar.

Yes, the support staff will get to you as soon as possible. If you have any additional questions, feel free to create a new thread:
